The Journey to Windsor Castle

On Monday we were all very excited because we went by coach to Windsor castle. We had our snack and our lunch there. We found out what castles were used for and why they were often built on a hill. We looked around the castle and went into the State apartments and saw Queen Mary's Doll House.

In English we wrote a recount about our trip.

In maths we did some problem solving using addition and take away. We had to try and find out all possibilities.

Some of us have been practising our challenges.
In Science we were learning about Robin's and  made bird feeders.

" Every winter the robin flies back to the same garden" Erin

This week our Learning owl is Jemima who has been concentrating with her writing. Well  done. Have fun with Snowy.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Christmas Sharing assembly next Friday at 9.05am . The children  will not need any costumes as they will be coming to school in their Christmas jumpers.

Bossy words

We have had a busy week! In English we have been learning to give and write instructions. We know that instructions use bossy or imperative words. We thought of words such a s cut, stick, fold, arrange and snip. We used these words to make snowman biscuits, snowflakes and cone angels.

In maths we have been learning about time, thinking about what time it would be an hour later than 11 o'clock and half past six.

We listened to and helped Reverend Tim retell the Christmas story which was fun because we all had different actions to do.
Year one  were the shepherds.

We are looking forward to our visit to Windsor  Castle on Monday and hope to see the Queen.

Our Learning Owl this week is Oliver who has persevered with his learning. Well done. Have fun with Snowy.

Sharing Assembly

We hope that you all enjoyed our sharing assembly Mrs Bentley and Mrs Orchard were very proud of our wonderful speaking, and we had a special snack to celebrate.

As well as practising our assembly this week we have been writing non- chronological reports in English about castles. We wrote an introduction in our report and then used sub headings to write a paragraph about a specific fact about castles.

In Dance we have been learning a Scottish dance. It was tricky to keep in time to the music as the tempo was very quick, but it was good fun dancing with a partner.

Thank you for all the bottle donations for the school bazaar on Saturday. We are looking forward to buying the decoration we have made.

This week's Learning Owl is Zanthi who has been trying so hard to concentrate with her learning. Well done and have fun with Snowy.

What's The Time Mr Wolf?

In Maths this week we have been learning to tell the time to o'clock and half past. We know that there are:
" 60 minutes in 1 hour and 24 hours in a day" Hugh.
" The short hand is  the hour hand" Maddy.
" The long hand is the minute hand" Jemima.

We shared our Home Learning and came up with some interesting facts. In English we used these facts to write about castles. In English we looked at Non - Chronological reports about castles and wrote our own interesting facts.
" Non - Chronological Reports have headings and a  conclusion " Erin.

In computing  we used Clicker 6 to draw and fill different shapes. We used our own username to log onto the computer.

We have also started to practise our assembly which is next Friday 25th November. This  is also non uniform day in exchange for bringing a bottle for the school Christmas Bazaar on the 26th November 11-2pm.

Our Learning Owl this week is Emily  who has been concentrating on taking her learning forwards. Well done. Have fun with snowy.

In the tunnel..

Welcome to our class blog.
Each week we shall be sharing our learning in Beech Class. In Year 1 we have Creative Writing sessions. This week we read part of the story of The Tunnel by Antony Browne and we had to imagine what it was like to be in the tunnel, using all our senses.

"I can see a river and I can hear some dripping. I can hear footsteps and my heart is beating faster". Ben.

In Maths we have been using a different resources to subtract or take away. We drew our own pictures, used the bead strings and a numberline to help.

" The numbers get smaller when you take away". Jemima.

In Topic we have been talking about  how the weather changes in different seasons. We made a weather chart and recorded the weather each day.

When it is foggy there are lots of different clouds near the ground". Mehdi

In Gym we have been travelling in different ways using the apparatus. We had to work together as a team.

We enjoyed going to Forest Schools and made bird feeders with cheerios and blueberries. We practising tying knots and hung the feeders  from the trees for the birds to peck. We made 2D shapes with natural materials and explored the muddy kitchen. We used interesting words to describe what we had made.
Our Learning Owl this week is Ralphie who has been persevering with his learning. Well done. Have fun with Snowy.
