St Albans Cathedral

We have had a busy week . We enjoyed visiting St Albans Cathedral on Tuesday. We looked at the Rose window with its magnificent colours and then took part in a stained glass workshop. We went on a maths trail also, and looked for 2D and 3D shapes in the Cathedral. We also looked at the symmetrical patterns on the floor tiles.

In English we have been practising writing formal letters and wrote letters to the Cathedral to say thank you for our visit.

In maths we have been using maths words to describe 2D shapes. We used words like curved, equal length, straight sides and corners.

In PSHE we have been thinking about keeping safe.

Next week is book week. There will be a book swap table outside the Year 1 classrooms and we will be taking part in different reading and writing activities throughout the week. If you have a favourite book which you would like your child to share with the class please send it in.

Our Learning Owl this week is Harry who has been taking responsibility for his learning. Well done Harry, have fun with Snowy.

Visiting India

In English this week we have been creating our own fact sheets and leaflets about India. We used non-fiction books and the  ipads to research information. We found out that Indian  people eat flat bread and rice with all of their meals. We also learnt that the school year starts in April.

In topic we  drew designs taken from William Morris and will be using these to print our own wallpaper. we had to look carefully at shape, size and texture and looked closely to make further  improvements on our designs.

In maths we have been adding different coins to find a total.

We are looking forward to our trip to St Albans Cathedral after half term.

Have an enjoyable half term and we shall be back in school on Monday 20th February.
