Splash Dance

We have had a busy week. In maths we have been using the 100 square to practise adding and subtracting ten. We have been thinking about how many tens and how many ones there are in a number.

" 17 has 7 ones and 1 ten". Ben

"34 has 3 tens 4 ones" Finlay

We have been solving missing number problems.

In music we played the instruments using a score.

" A score is like the instructions for a tune". Austin

In Dance we are creating our own Splash Dance. We were thinking about moving slowing showing different ways to get into a swimming pool.

We practised skills for Sports day in our PE lesson.

On Friday it is Green Day and we can wear something green. We also need to bring into school an old t-shirt or a piece of clothing that we can reuse to make belts, bags, hats, tops etc.

Our Learning Owl is harry T for persevering with his Design and Technology project. Well done Harry. Have fun with Snowy

May Dance

We hope you all enjoyed the May Dance this morning. The children enjoyed dressing up and learning the dance.

Well done to all of the children who took part in the Fun Run. They proudly wore their medals in Celebration Assembly today.

In Design and Technology we explored making stable structures using construction kits, newspaper and playdough and cocktail sticks. We found out that it is best to start on a flat surface and to create a large area for the base. We had to build a tower that was 50cm high.

In Maths we have been exploring 3D shapes . We have been describing them using maths words such as faces, edges, vertices, circular and rectangular. Some of us in Learning Through Play  made our own every day 3D objects using nets.

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable half term. See you on Tuesday  6th June.

We used wow words to describe the setting and the characters in our story.

" I can hear the dawn chorus" Emily Cr

"I could see tiny waves rushing past me and my reflection in the water". Maddy

" I stopped running and I let the purple sparkly bird free" Zanthi

In Maths we have been sharing equally into groups  for example

" 10 divided by 5 = 2  Austin

 4x 2 = 8
There are 4 groups of 2

Also we have been thinking about repeated addition.
2+2+2+2=8

We have been practising our May Dance with our partners.

In Art we had fun  looking at the work of the artist David Hockney. We  created our own swimming pool pictures, mixing either white or black to create tones and shades. Then we used paint and collage materials to make a swimmer for our pictures. It was fun!

Rickmansworth Canal Trip

We have had a very busy week , but fun week! On Wednesday we visited Batchworth Lock Canal Centre in Rickmansworth. We learnt that canals are man made. We helped to open the lock gates to let the canal boats through. The gates were heavy to push and pull.
We dressed up as Victorian children and did some washing using a washboard and dolly. The dolly helped to get the clothes clean.
We saw a very old working wooden canal boat called The Roger. It was so tiny inside! There was a pull down bed which everyone had to sleep in and a tiny "cupboard" for the baby to sleep.
We went on a boat trip along the canal and found out that in the olden days a horse would pull the boat using a rope by walking along the towpath.
In English we have been sequencing the day on the canal and using this to help write a recount.

In Maths we have been learning about multiplication. We have been practising to count in 2's, 5's and 10's to help with this.

In Computing we have been learning to insert a picture into a word document using the laptops.

In Dance we have been practising our May Dance with our partners.

We have been learning about the different food groups in PSHE and why we need certain  foods to keep us healthy.

This week our Learning Owl is Emily  who has been challenging herself with her writing. Well done . Have fun with Snowy!
